Last night I witnessed the first steps of the local live drum'n'bass band Analog into the fiercely competitive world of the London drum'n'bass scene. I should really start by saying that I wasn't alone on the journey from Southend to London, in fact Analog had rallied together its local support and packed them onto a double decker bus that sped us all into the big smoke.
The venue (The Rhythm Factory) was in Whitechapel, our bus set off from the Grand in Leigh just before 10pm randomly picking up band members Rollman, Amit, CJ and Wilson outside Retro Bar on the way. They had already been into London soundchecking but had returned to join friends, fans, family and girlfriends on the bus for a few "quiet drinks" en route.
We arrived just before midnight with plenty of time for more liquid
refreshment before Analog performed at 2am. In the meantime we were
entertained by some quality perfromances by DJ vs the Drummer, and Fat Habit (check the "No Rest For The Wicked" flyer for info on DJ's and MC's).
Finally the time came for Analog to take to the Rhythm Factory
stage, we had all been helping to warm up the dancefloor and were now
ready for the live finale! The set was blinding as expected, I have
been along to a few rehersals back in sunny Southend but this
set took things to a whole new level. Analog played through their
setlist only pausing to allow Rollman to shake the cramp out of his
arms and the crowd to take a breather, they played their frantic track
Roller (around 190bpm!) along with an arsenal of anthems that are now
becoming synonymous with the live sounds of Analog.
The crowd went nuts as they played through, I was dancing too only
pausing to take a few photos and shift away from the mosh pit and
protect my camera! It was smiles all round and plenty of gun finger
action as they recieved their applause, I look forward to seeing them
again soon, and I know the crowd are too. Don't forget to check out
their myspace www.myspace.com/analoglivednb,
and don't forget Analog are regular performers at Urban Shakedown in
Southend, keep an eye out for upcoming events on the forum and www.myspace.com/urbansouthend.
