Why Love Southend?

The idea came when I returned from travelling overseas and returned to a Southend that had morphed from a melting pot of artistic ideas into a fully functioning creative underground. Southend has now featured in various artforms nationwide, from hairdressing (backed up by a new college/university building springing up in the town centre. Lee Stafford winning the Men’s British Hairdresser of the Year in 1998) through to photography (Dean Chalkley exhibiting in London and featuring in NME on numerous occasions) as obvious examples of Southend's sucess in the creative fields. Along with this we have seen the arrival and deaparture (RIP) of the famous haunt of Dean Chalkley, Junk based at the Royal Hotel...

Welcome to the brand new Love Southend. For anyone new to the site here is a brief overview so you know the basics about the site (please read the "About Love Southend" article for more detailed information about the features within the LoveSouthend.co.uk website).

This site was launched on Valentines day 2007 with the purpose of creating a community based website for the creative underground in Southend-On-Sea, Essex, and now I have launched the new and improved site after a short break making the most of the latest "Web II" technology..
