A Southend teenager, aged just 16, is fund raising for Havens Hospices in memory of her cousin Reece. Born 5th March 1999 Reece suffered with a variety of illness, including the loss of his hearing and sight in the first few months. It has since been named ‘PEHO syndrome‘, a rare neurodegenerative condition. After a short time of breathing and feeding tubes, Reece’s windpipe collapsed allowing his family to agree on turning his life support off on the 24th July 1999, Reece was just 4 months old.

This Saturday, 12th July 2014, Kiri Reeve is having her hair cut for the fundraiser at Wicked Hair & Beauty salon situated at Manners Corner in Manners Way Southend. There will be photographers present as the event is expected to appear in the Southend Evening Echo newspaper at a later date. Kiri will be left with just a short pixie cut, losing about 60cm, that’s just under 2 foot of hair!

Kiri’s hair will be donated to a childs cancer charity, ‘Little Princess Trust‘, to be made into a wig. This charity provides real-hair wigs to boys and girls across the UK and Ireland that have sadly lost their own hair through cancer treatment.

When a family has been told there is no cure for their loved ones illness Havens Hospices can help. The charity exists to make the journey as comfortable as possible  by controlling pain and medication, offering respite and caring for children and adults at the end of their lives. Donating to this cause is a great investment, you can never be sure when you, or someone you love, may need the organisations assistance.
