Afternoon Tea at Roslin Hotel Cassy Bhairo May 16, 2014 Food & Drink, Local Business, Seaside, Southend Nestled just outside of Southend lays the beautiful Roslin Hotel. The hotel offers fine dining and afternoon tea at its restaurant, with wonderful views of the seafront. I took my mother here for our first afternoon tea experience and I didn’t know what to expect; maybe a few cakes, a couple sandwiches and a pot of tea. But we were wrong. I was overwhelmed with the amount of food brought to us! We started with a pot of Darjeeling tea and a tray of wonderful madelines. Madelines are small sponge cakes in the shape of elongated shells. Next up a large cake stand laid on our table full of wonderful delights such as finger sandwiches and a variety of cakes. Roast beef and mustard, smoked salmon and cucumber and egg and cress finger sandwiches, were not only tasty but very filling. Small chocolate éclairs filled with cream sent us to heaven, dainty cakes that contained fruit fillings tickled our taste buds and delicate pastries left us wanting more. By the time the last tray came we were stuffed! The last tray contained small pots of champagne jelly with strawberries topped with cream. The perfect ending to a mini sugar fuelled feast. I certainly did not expect afternoon tea to be filling, ideal for a lunch or early afternoon dinner. I was impressed by the efficient service, the quality of food and seafront views. Afternoon tea is perfect for special occasions, birthdays or any time you feel like treating yourself. Booking in advance is a must, as afternoon tea can be booked up quickly especially at weekends. At £15.99 it’s a cost efficient way of enjoying Southend’s sea views and sampling delicious afternoon delights.
