Love Southend’s favourite pick of Instagrams this month in no particular order:

1

Carnival :) #queen #carnival #princesses #dress #heels #smile #pretty #girls #sun #southend

The beautiful Southend-on-Sea Carnival Queen and Court. Beautiful girls. Southend Carnival 2014 was an amazing event, and you can read about it here. It was a great night which illuminated the seafront beautifully. Great procession, crowd and all round atmosphere :)

2

Just about to set off on the Havens Hospices #greatpierswim around 280 people swimming under Southend Pier for charity #makingeverydaycount

Another amazing event for charity that happened this month, the Great Pier Swim! Which had 280 brave swimmers swimming in the waters of Southend Seaside, under Southend Pier.

3

Sandcastle building at Southend-on-sea, with tertiary flood guards as standard of course… #sandcastle #beach #familymemories #southend

Magnificently built sandcastle on Southend beach. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such an a fantastic sandcastle at Southend seaside before. If you could build one better than this, I would love to see it. Seriously. Please send in photos. You might get to see them up on the Love Southend website! What a great excuse for an end-of-summer family day out!

4

The tide is out – Leigh on Sea

Another tranquil photograph of a boat at Leigh-on-Sea. Beautiful. Nothing better than a stroll along Leigh-on-Sea to soothe a heavy headache and this photo just takes me there right now. Looks like something right out of a painting!

5

Jelly bean picture of the Queen in the window of Mr Simms sweet shop Southend #southend

If you haven’t seen this outside of Mr Simms Sweet Shop on the High Street, you’re missing out. This masterpiece is especially fantastic up close. There’s a competition to guess (or count, I suppose!) the number of jelly beans used to create this stunning image of the Queen. It takes a certain kind of talent to create something so unique like this…

6

#rollscoaster #southend #rage

I love the angle and perspective of this shot of the Rage rollercoaster at Adventure Island. The pinks and yellows of the ride contrast so well against that beautiful bright blue sky.

7

#Speechless #HappyBirthday #Southend #Essex #SouthendOnSea

If anyone knows who this 70 year old man is, tell him Happy Birthday from Love Southend! He’s obviously very well loved, and I hope I receive just as many cards for my 70th birthday that I can wear them all on myself in such a fashion.

8

The building on pier hill next to the cliff lift is on fire #Southend #fire

On a sadder note, the Alexandra Yacht Club tragically ended its 130 years of life as it dramatically erupted into flames last week. It was due to be demolished anyway and was considered to be derelict, but it is still a huge part of Southend’s history and it will be sorely missed. Alexandra Yacht Club was the 5th oldest in the country, and the 9th oldest in the world.

Boats at Leigh on Sea. #boats #seaside #leighonsea #southend #clouds #iphone5

Another amazing shot of the boats out at Leigh-on-Sea. Lovely clouds hovering above too.

10

Welcome to Miami. That’s Miami Street, #Southend. #WeekendBreak #Sunshine #Beach

Certainly Southend’s most photogenic location in town. I think Miami Street does sound rather appropriate. Beautiful photo that captures the area well.

And our favourite photo of the month from Love Southend’s Instagram!

There was a Punch & Judy festival on Southend Pier earlier this month, and I was lucky enough to be able to go. Was an amazing family day out on Southend Pier, and a perfect traditional seaside activity for the children. There’ll be more Punch & Judy in Old Leigh for the Old Leigh Regatta later this month, so be sure to check it out for some traditional seaside fun for all ages!
